Are you one of the millions of Americans that partake in self abuse? Have you experienced feelings of overwhelm or unworthiness and find that your solution for dealing with it is to hurt yourself? Unfortunately, you are not alone. Many Americans resort to harming themselves, self sabotage, and cutting the body as a way of dealing with stressful situations, problems, or emotional disorders.

This way of coping may provide you some temporary relief by way of redirecting your focus, releasing anger, or assisting you in expressing repressed and bottled up feelings. Although you may feel better for the time being, as soon as those feelings of overwhelm and stress return, urges to injure yourself well up inside you as to provide relief.

Many therapists equate self-harm to being like an addiction. “You have a burning desire to stop, but you don’t know how.” Melinda Smith, M.A., and Jeanne Segal, Ph.D. Some are so paralyzed by the temporary relief of self-harm, that they can’t give it up. Now, if that’s how you are coping with life, please understand you can receive assistance without harming yourself. There are countless venues which can provide support and guidance if you desire to stop. Regardless of the events in your life right now, you can learn to feel the fear and move forward in the face of adversity.

Self-abuse is a coping mechanism that many adopt to deal with guilt, rage, sadness, abandonment and numerous other emotional stressors. Self-abuse is also known by many other names, including, self injury, self-harm, deliberate self-harm, self mutilation, and para-suicidal behavior. I mean really think about it; hurting yourself to stop hurting for another reason doesn’t sound productive. It’s like breaking a finger to take your mind off being shot. It’s a distraction, but the underlying problem still exists. You’ve been shot and still need assistance. There are individuals that feel as though hurting themselves is the best alternative and the only way to deal with feelings of deep emotional pain.

The challenge is that self-harming provides a momentary release of the pain. It’s like throwing a Band-Aid in the ocean. It covers up a small part of the problem, but it does not address the root cause of this situation. It simply boils down to the fact that self injury nor cutting helps you with the stressors that fueled your desire to harm yourself in the beginning.

For those that find relief in self-harm, they do their very best to keep it a secret. Feelings of resentment and hatred may keep you from seeking out help or sharing this part of your life with friends and family. Believe me when I say this, suppressing your feelings, putting your wants and desires on the back burner will only create more undesired feelings and emotional distress. This can easily lead to bigger health and emotional problems. “If you don’t learn other ways to deal with emotional pain, it puts you at risk of bigger problems down the line, including major depression, drug and alcohol addiction, and suicide.” Melinda Smith, M.A., and Jeanne Segal, Ph.D.

google_ad_channel = “7940249670, ” + AB_cat_channel + AB_unit_channel;
google_language = “en”;
google_ad_region = ‘test’;

Below, I will discuss 3 ways to assist you in dealing with cutting and self-harm; figure out why you self-harm or cut, tell someone you trust, and adopt new constructive behaviors.

1. Why I harm myself

The initial step to dealing with and overcoming self-harm or cutting is to understand why this is your chosen way of coping. Once we figure out what purpose self-harm or cutting serves, we can introduce other actions, techniques, and activities to meet those needs. It’s important to gain an understanding of your emotional center. In other words, how you feel and what feelings make you want to hurt or cut yourself. Your feelings are an easy indication of what you are thinking now. If you’re feeling good, you must be thinking something positive, if you’re feeling bad, you must be thinking something negative.

Discover your emotional center

As you go throughout your day, ask yourself several times a day, how do I feel, what am I thinking. This will bring you back to the present moment and allow you to make decisions on how to deal with and correct the current situation. For instance, when you have urges to self-harm, ask yourself what am I thinking. Obviously, your thoughts are negative and your desire is to relieve the pain. This can be done by shifting your attention from negative thoughts to something positive. But you have to be aware of your thoughts so you can make the shift. So paying attention to your feelings or having the ability to identify and express what you are feeling is key in making the transition from hurting to healing.

Feelings can change as frequent as the direction of the wind. Hence the importance of being aware of when you are feeling good so you can maintain those thoughts. The mention of paying attention to your feelings can be scary to someone who is used to self-harm as a pain relief. You may think, it’s my feelings that got me in this situation in the first place. When really, it’s your decision to deal with pain by self-harm that got you in this situation.

2. Tell someone you trust and get help

If it is your desire to find assistance and support from cutting and self injury, please reach out to someone who can help. You are not alone in this fight. Confiding in someone can be a challenge but it can start the healing process. Remember, the urge to self harm can stem from emotional pain such as sadness, anger, shame, guilt, low self esteem, being unclear about your purpose in life, or feelings of abandonment and resentment.

I suggest you find someone that you trust, someone who makes you feel accepted and supported. You may decide to seek out a coach, a teacher, or trained professional. Bringing this area of your life to light, can be uncomfortable and down-right unsettling. Do your best to stay encouraged even if the situation feels worse at that particular time. It’s hard to confront and let go of any habit so give yourself credit for taking steps to correct this behavior.

When it comes to divulging this very personal and sensitive information, it can be emotionally exhausting. Your initial approach may be a phone call, an email or some sort of impersonal correspondence due to your understood nervousness about the subject. You may not understand why you self-harm and expecting someone else to understand can be just as challenging. So you want to give them time to process what you share with them. This information can be very unsettling to a someone and their reactions, whatever they may be, are simply because they care and want to support you.

Focus on your feelings and the events that lead to self-harm. This will enable the person you confide in to step into your shoes and get a better picture as to how you interpret things. This can also be an eye opener to letting the other person know why you chose to tell them.

3. Fun techniques to replace self-harm

When it comes to handling painful situations and emotional distress, self-harm is your way of coping. In order to release that idea, it’s important to raise your awareness of other positive and healthy response methods whenever you begin feeling like it’s time to hurt or cut yourself.

If you are feeling disassociated, numb and need to feel sensation:
– Smell perfume; use aromatherapy to awaken your senses and ground yourself
– Do relaxation exercises
– Be mindful of your breathing, slowly inhaling and exhaling 10 times
– Squeeze a rubber ball

If you are feeling angry and frustrated:
– Exercise vigorously; go jogging, swimming, play tennis
– Play music loudly and dance, dance, dance
– Hit a punching bag or pillows
– Rip up a newspaper or telephone book
– Yell into a pillow, rant
– Throw out all your sharp objects and/or lighters, whatever you used to self-harm
– Clean your house, your car, your closets, do gardening, have sex

If you are feeling sad, depressed, hurt:
– Visualize a stop sign
– Write in a journal; scribble; do free association writing
– Draw; freestyle drawing or drawing to music
– Walk your dog; groom your pets
– Reach out and talk to a friend
– Take a bubble bath, put clean sheets on your bed and indulge in little luxuries
– Give yourself a manicure or pedicure
– Listen to uplifting music

Melinda Smith, M.A., and Jeanne Segal, Ph.D.

“I do not believe that you can substitute self-harm with self-harm, thus I do not recommend that you in any way cause yourself pain to overcome your urge to cut or burn yourself; it may be all too tempting to go overboard and harm yourself just as much if not more but in a different manner.” Allie Bloom, David Schafer

Just today I watched a movie about graduation, while watching I remembered the 14th of May 2010. I slept through the commencement speech at my graduation. And I wasn’nt the only one. All we wanted was to hear our names called so we could finally toss our caps into the air and down something with any percentage of alcohol as our reward for enduring four years of educational tyranny. We were now self-ordained adults and finally free to tell our parents that as soon as we were handed our diplomas, their almost 19 years of dictatorships were now over, that from now on, we were calling the shots. We would stay up and out as long as we wanted, we would go wherever we felt like because we had passed enough test to prove our intelligence (or maybe not! lol) and finally earned the right to step into the abyss we were claiming as our future. WE ALL HAD PLANS! such as being a professor in a University, researcher, historiographer or even a famous star. My dream is to save the world if I remember it correctly. I didn’t quite know how, but I’d deal with the small details when they came up.

During my college days, I enjoyed every moment with my friends and professors. Everymorning I wake up, take a shower, and eat breakfast and after that, go to school and listen to our professors lecture. After class, chat a bit, stay in the PUP-SMK office, read some books and wait for Sir Mcdonald’s class to finish and go home. Everything was almost perfect. At home, I’ll eat dinner, watch TV and turn on my computer for “facebooking” ( I invented this word). ahhhhhh life was so sweet back then.

After our graduation, everything change. There is no guarantee for anything; no plans, no direction, no money and no job. My parents told me that I need to rest for a while and after a month or two I can look for a job and start earning money. But I can’t! I’m not like the other college graduates that can stay around and be a bum for a while. I want a job ASAP!– and I did! I was so happy that words was not enough to express how lucky I am to have it.

google_ad_channel = “7940249670, ” + AB_cat_channel + AB_unit_channel;
google_language = “en”;
google_ad_region = ‘test’;

Good for me, but not so lucky for some of my classmates. They jumped into the sea of uncertainty, knowing nothing about the cruel life. Some were riding the waves of decline in different schools and companies, others have jobs,but not careers. Everything is complicated and harsh. Life in the real world is all about competition and struggle. In order for you to survive, you need to be practical or at least try to think things out. A realy paycheck with a few pesos left over would’ve been nice. I already knew that life was going to be a struggle or at least a challenge, but I was looking forward to it. That’s the reason why I chose to be practical and plan things out. After earning money, go the graduate school and persue my dream to be a professor. That’s the path that I want to take! The goal, in my estimation, is to continue to evolve and change and renew our thinking and feelings so that we do not remain static and stuck about anything. It’s how I measure my own evolution and as long as what I do pleases me and one hopes will benefit others, then I have added something sacred to the world.

The following are the things that I learned, and the things that you need to do inorder for you to survive:

1. CONFINDENCE: There’s nothing worse than watching people walking as if they’re afraid of something. It’ll make you look uncomfortable with your self. My advice is to walk tall, as if someone’s holding your head, chest and shoulders by separate strings or, more simply: walk like you’re royalty or in runway. Even if you don’t have much confidence, fake it! After a while you’ll get so accustomed to faking it that you won’t even realize when your confidence becomes real and rightfully so.

2. DON’T LISTEN TO YOUR PARENTS: Of course they mean well, but you can’t live out their dreams, you have to find it on your own. It’s your turn to live your life.

3. LEARN NEW THINGS: After graduation, better to explore and learn new things. Whatever you choose to do, give it everything you’ve got and don’t do all at the same time. Give yourself a time to learn. Remember that a mediocre effort will get you mediocre results.

4. KNOW THAT THE WORLD DOES NOT REVOLVE AROUND YOU: Take other people’s feeling into account. You are not the only one who has them. Caring about someone else’s misfortune and putting yourself in another person’s shoes will allow you to be less judgemental and not so supercritical of others.

5. PARTY HARD AND WORK HARD: Life is not always about hard work, hard work, hard work. You have to learn to parent yourself and know when to hang and when to take a rain check. After working and if you receive your paycheck, try to give yourself a price. But learn how to say no to your friends and to yourself.

Self motivation is one of the most powerful forces you can use in order to achieve success, attract money and enjoy a unique lifestyle. How does one become self motivated though? Is there some sort of mystical force out there that drives some people and motivates them?

The answer is “no” – self motivation, as the name suggests, is about being able to motivate yourself without any external assistance or influence. It is a skill as much as it is a state of mind. In order to be self motivated, you must also have a positive attitude about your life as it is currently and as you see it in the future.

The first step in becoming self motivated is thanksgiving. You need to be thankful for where you are now. You may have made mistakes or errors in judgement in the past, and you may have much more that you want to be and do, but dwelling on what could have been or what might have been can be a serious and very negative distraction. Once you accept that where you are right now is your new ‘starting line’, then you can get on with the process of becoming self motivated and pursuing new goals and dreams – attract money, have a great health or attract an ideal partner.

The next important point is that you have to be a dreamer that can put dreams into action. In the self-motivational classic “The Science of Getting Rich”, Wallace D. Wattles enlightens us that “Thoughts become things”. All creations that exist start with an idea. For you, your dream might be success in your work or in your own business.

google_ad_channel = “7940249670, ” + AB_cat_channel + AB_unit_channel;
google_language = “en”;
google_ad_region = ‘test’;

One thing about that dream is that it should be BIG. It’s not enough just to say “I want to attract more money”. It may seem like an idea but it really isn’t going to motivate you for very long. Big dreams have substance. It is like when you dream about having money for a new house. Then you start to think about the details like : walking in a silk robe, have a two car garage, an Olympic size swimming pool and a huge fish tank in one wall of the living room. You might imagine an ocean view from the balcony as a cool breeze refreshes you. You feel relaxed, graceful, and smile with a deep feeling of gratitude living in such a luxurious lifestyle. As you fill in all of those details, you realise that these are the reasons that will motivate you to achieve your goals, not just from the words “I want to attract money”.

Now, let’s look at a business dream. The first step in bringing that dream to fruition is setting some goals. You might say that in one year’s time the business will be making five thousand dollars in profit each month. In three years’ time that profit will have doubled to ten thousand dollars profit each month. At that point in time, the business will have a healthy bank account and an investment portfolio and you will be paying your employees a generous bonus each year. The next goal might be to franchise the business and start opening stores all over the country.

Do you now see how much bigger that is than “I want to attract more money”. Could you see yourself becoming motivated at the thought of building that business into a national franchise? Certainly it is quite a grand plan, but you don’t have to go that “big” to become driven and self motivated. All you really need is a worthwhile and achievable dream to set the self motivation wheels in motion. Also, you have to be the person whom you see yourself as being successful. This means that you will start to adopt the posture, observe the way you talk, the words that you speak – so that you gradually morph yourself to become the successful person which match the success that you consistently think about, dream and positively expect to happen.

But I believe you still require a step by step guide to help you manifest your true heart desires. You need to understand how to harness the law of attraction to make your goal manifestation process a success.

To understand the importance of ‘mindset’, we need to first understand the effect of influence. We are influenced by almost everything around us. We may not be conscious of many of those influences but they are present and affecting us every day.

From the time we are born, the things we do, hear, see and experience influence the way we think and the way we look at various aspects of our lives and the world around us. People we cone into contact with regularly, what we know from the television, radio and newspapers all have an influence on us. Those influences have an effect on our mindset.

So what exactly is mindset? It is your mental attitude which determines how you will react and respond to the various situations you find yourself in each day. We’ve all had those days where nothing seems to go right. On those sort of days, we generally react in a more negative way to situations that normally would have little effect or cause no reaction. We don’t have to do that though. If we actually stop and think about the situation and realize that it isn’t something that would normally affect us, then we can approach that situation with a more positive mindset.

google_ad_channel = “7940249670, ” + AB_cat_channel + AB_unit_channel;
google_language = “en”;
google_ad_region = ‘test’;

Mindset affects negative emotions such as fear and worry and also affects positive emotions such as satisfaction and happiness. Many people suffer bouts of serious depression and in many cases the greatest contributing factor is their mindset. The situation they are in isn’t necessarily as serious as their mind is telling them it is, but unless they learn how to alter their mindset, their negative thoughts can have a devastating affect on their life and their lifestyle.

Successful people generally have a very positive mindset. Now you may say that it’s easy to be positive when you are successful, but it generally works the other way around. If you have a positive mindset then you have a much greater chance of being successful and happy with your life. Similarly, if you constantly carry this positive mindset with you daily, you will eventually attract the abundance that you long for into your life. Common sense tells us that if you don’t really believe you can achieve your goals, then you have a much greater chance of quitting prematurely. If a world champion sports person never had the belief that they could compete at international level, then I’m sure they would not have taken the time and effort to achieve that goal. Why would you pursue a goal that you didn’t really believe in?

A positive mindset can help strip away the doubt and allow you to see your true potential. People who achieve great things weren’t born great. In most cases they had a good idea or a dream and were passionate and motivated enough that they didn’t allow anything to stop them from achieving their goals.

Having a positive mindset allows you to focus on the things that matter. It releases you from the excess baggage that comes with unnecessary worry or fear and allows you to pursue your important goals fully knowing and believing that you can achieve those goals.

But even when you have a positive mindset which motivates you daily towards achieving your goals, you still require certain concrete steps to turn your dreams and goals into your realities.

Did you know nearly everyone has been a victim of conversational hypnosis at one point in life? Think about it, how many times have you found yourself buying things you never intended to purchase all because of a salesperson who convinced you do it? It is not until later that you realize that it all happened as if you had no knowledge of it.

Guess what, that is one way of using conversational hypnosis on others. I’m sure you’ve often wondered how it is that some people are just great salespersons, well wonder no more, the reality is that many are great conversational hypnotists.

There is a big difference between the normal hypnosis that we know of known as overt hypnosis and conversational hypnosis generally known as convert hypnosis. While one happens with the full knowledge of both parties, the other happens without the comprehension of one party.

google_ad_channel = “7940249670, ” + AB_cat_channel + AB_unit_channel;
google_language = “en”;
google_ad_region = ‘test’;

I’m sure you are wondering what exactly I’m trying to say here. A good example of overt hypnosis is the one carried out by therapists in hospitals. Normally, this type of hypnosis is carried out to help people fighting addictions or mental patients in hospitals and health care clinics.

Convert hypnosis on the other hand simply involves the art of using language techniques to convince people of your opinions. In many occassions, people have no indication that hypnosis is taking place.

Just to be clear here, this kind of hypnosis is in no way harmful and does not force anyone to do anything that is against their principles. What this hypnosis does is that it helps people achieve their goals. You will always find people with selfish ambitions using convert hypnosis to satisfy their greed, but if one uses this hypnosis correctly they are bound to formin long lasting relationships with other people.

Consider the case of a young man who has every reason to seek promotion in the company that they work for. This person knows that all they have to do is approach their bosses and require of them to get them a promotion.

 If this person uses convert hypnosis they will either get a raise or find themselves without a job. Convert hypnosis needs a lot of technique.

One important concept, that helps you have a healthy sense of self-acceptance and self-esteem, is the knowledge that you are perfect, right now, just the way you are. This is true regardless of your problems, early childhood issues, body, I.Q., mistakes, etc. Consider a new definition of perfection which includes all of your imperfections. This is an important seed thought to hold in your mind as you go forward in life growing into your full potential Self. Accepting the truth of your beauty and perfection is best illustrated by looking at an acorn. In a minute I will share with you how the sprouted acorn became my business symbol and logo. First, let me explain more about the perfection of the acorn which makes it a little easier to apply this concept of your beauty and perfection to yourself.

 The acorn inside its hard shell holds the seed with the potential to grow into a full oak tree. When the conditions are right, it breaks free and begins its life journey. We would not look at one acorn and say it is a good acorn and look at another and say it is a bad one. They are all good and perfect being acorns, as the seed grows it is a perfect expression of its self at every phase of its life.  It is no less worthy as a seed with all its potential hidden from view than as a giant tree in full stature.  All along the acorn’s life path, as a seedling, a small tree, a big tree, and a giant tree, it is perfect; it is being who and what it is capable of being at every moment.  Even though it is capable of growing more at each stage of its life, the acorn is still a beautiful expression of its Self at every stage.  And you, like the acorn, are a beautiful expression of your Self at every stage of your life journey.

google_ad_channel = “7940249670, ” + AB_cat_channel + AB_unit_channel;
google_language = “en”;
google_ad_region = ‘test’;

 Most of us do not accept this idea very readily. We judge ourselves harshly for certain choices we have made, feeling shame that we have made mistakes, which to us proves we are not perfect. The irony is you are perfectly being you, learning and evolving with each and every choice you make, mistakes and unwise choices included. Your perfection includes your imperfections.

 To truly feel good about yourself, now, today, it is important to allow the truth of your present perfection to sink into and become a part of your belief system. As you release false truths about yourself, you will allow the full expression of your Self to be felt and experienced. Ponder and mediate on this idea for a while if you have some difficulty accepting it, so you can relearn what you once knew innately. Your beauty and perfection is waiting for you to acknowledge it and integrate it into your belief system.

 Now for how the acorn became my symbol. Many years ago I was hired to give two teacher in-service training sessions. My youngest daughter was in preschool at this time, and before I picked her up, I liked to meditate for a few minutes. One particular day I had a very clear vision of myself handing out acorns to the teachers and explaining exactly what I just shared with you above. My daughter and I went to the park and began gathering acorns. During the first teacher training session I felt too uncomfortable handing out the acorns and giving the analogy.

Well, wouldn’t you know, I had the exact same meditation right before the second training. I smiled and said to my spiritually guided meditation, “Thank you, I get the message.” For many years after that day I handed out acorns and started my self-esteem workshops and talks with the acorn analogy. It became a part of me. When I needed a business logo, my artist friend Susan created the perfect logo for me, an acorn with three leaves sprouting out of the top. The following is a short version of the acorn analogy.

The Acorn Analogy

Deep inside you know how to be you, as
an acorn knows how to be a mighty oak.

The acorn does the best it can do
at each stage of growth along its life path.

Even if the early start was less than perfect,
the eager oak accelerates its desire to grow
every time that it has nurturing from nature:
sunlight, rainwater, and soil nutrients.

YOU are like the acorn doing your best under
the conditions in which you are growing.

Nurture yourself with awareness, acceptance, love,
self-respect, and self-esteem, then watch
you grow towards your full-potential Self!

When I think of foggy city environments, I tend to think of the gas-light era which is the scene of many a chilling crime story. Without wanting to get embroiled in terrifying street scenes, I want to mention and talk about fog and clouds (though not of the pink fluffy variety, as you’d expect with me) in relation to our mood.

Sometimes in life, it can seem like there is a fog and we can feel thick headed if we experience depression or even just have a depressed episode of some kind in our life.

Our senses can become numbed and the world can become dark, gloomy and unpleasant. Which is what the gas-light era streets were like. Ideally, we’d like to contrast that with uplifting, happy environments that are not as scary and which seem colourful and pleasant to be in and around.

That is what this self-hypnosis process is all about. It is not the kind of process that is right for everyone all of the time, but if you feel muffled, numb and like you have a foggy head and require some clarity, then this could well be just what you are after.

6 Steps To Lift The Gloom:

Before you start, have a good think about how you’d like things to be in your life and your perception of your world.

In a place where you are going to be undisturbed for the period of this exercise, get yourself nice and comfortable and sat down with your feet and hands uncrossed and not touching each other, take a nice deep breath and as you exhale allow your eyes to close and begin.

Step One: Induce Hypnosis. That is, hypnotise yourself using any strategy or technique that you know of and are most comfortable with. You can use a relaxation process or a mindfulness notion, or even any form of meditation that will help you focus and absorb yourself in your thoughts.

When you have a good level of receptivity, then move on to step two.

Step Two: Imagine what you would be seeing if your mood were lifted. How would life be? Where would you be? Who would you be with? Start to create that kind of environment there in front of you.

Notice though that it may appear vague, foggy and unclear. You have an idea of sorts of how you imagine things will be but you are struggling to really get it vivid inside your mind.

It is all here in front of you, how you imagine things will be when you are feeling upbeat, happy and are enjoying your experience of life…

The sounds are muffled, like someone speaking into a folded blanket.

google_ad_channel = “7940249670, ” + AB_cat_channel + AB_unit_channel;
google_language = “en”;
google_ad_region = ‘test’;

The images are unclear, vague, and lack any richness of colour or texture and you cannot make out any detail.

You notice how it makes you feel lack the ability to get this clear and enjoyable inside your mind. Notice enough of that frustration to be useful for this exercise and when you sense enough of that frustration, move on to the next step.

Step Three: Imagine that you have an imaginary pen or crayon with which to draw and edit your thoughts.

Use it to draw a line on the ground underneath the scene before you. Right there as you look at the muffled, foggy imagery before you, draw a line underneath it with your mind’s eye, using a pen of your mind. Do it with a sense of purpose and in a deliberate fashion.

With that line drawn underneath the scene before you, start to think to yourself that enough is enough. You are no longer going to put up with this clouded perception, you know that life is full of colour, joy and resonance. So…

Step over to the line you have drawn and reach down, bend right down and force your fingers under the line and start to lift it up… Start to raise the line and notice what is happening. As unusual as this may sound, start to lift the line up and as you do so, start to notice that it is almost as if you are lifting a cloudy screen.

Notice that it is as if you are lifting up a cloudy, foggy screen of some sort which was inhibiting the view in front of you. Imagine reaching deep inside your mind and finding all the strength and power you need to powerfully lift this up and higher and as you lift it higher, you go deeper inside your mind and the line starts to feel lighter and lighter and it becomes easier and easier to lift. Tell yourself that it is so and continue to lift it until it is above your head and starts to float up and away.

When it is out of your reach, it floats all by itself, out and away until it is no longer visible at all. You might find yourself squinting slightly as it gets brighter as you look upward and in front of you and move on to the next step.

Step Four: There before you, you see the world as it is when the fog is lifted, when the cloudiness is gone, when the mufflers have ceased… See your life in full and glorious colour, clear and sparkling. You distinguish colours, textures, sounds and it feels wonderful to have this level of clarity.

Enjoy the feelings, let them grow… Notice where in your body you feel the sensations of freedom, of clarity and start to get excited at how much more you can see now. Think deeply and contemplate about what was beyond your perception before, what was being obscured and start to see things anew.

Notice how fresh and alive everything seems to be, like a cloud has been lifted… Consider breathing out slowly and as you exhale giving off a sigh that indicates you have let go, you have opened your senses to the world and everything that seemed stale and old is now fresh, new and enjoyable.

Step Five: As you gaze upon the colourful scene of your life in all it’s glory, start to tell yourself that each of the things you see in your life from now on, you are going to choose to get excited about and be fascinated with… As you look at the people and things in your life, you look upon them with a healthy naivety, almost with a sense of awe, like a child experiencing something for the first time. You sense the detail and colours and textures that maybe have been taken for granted in recent times and you allow the simple things in your environment to contribute to your well-being and happiness.

It is not just your environment that contributes to your happiness – You get happy about the wonders of being alive, enjoying the sensation of breathing and sensing your organs working within you, the strength in your muscles and become aware of how amazing it is to be able to see, hear and feel at all and you choose to never take that for granted again.

With your senses primed and ready for engaging with the world around you, move on to the final step.

Step Six: Exit hypnosis. Wiggle your fingers and fingers, take a couple of energizing breaths and then open your eyes and start to make a conscious effort to see the light and shade, the contrast, the colour, hear the sounds, the tiniest distinctions of sounds and feel the full range of sensations that comes with being a human being… Then celebrate being alive and having lifted that cloud that was numbing and filtering your senses before.

Practice this self-hypnosis process repeatedly for a few days to make it work even better.

Even if you are not having a depressive episode, this is a lovely process to have a go at and we could all do with this kind of perspective, intention and having a fog lifted every once in a while.

Change is the only constant thing in life and we cannot agree more. Although it seems preposterous for a few individuals to consider transition coaching to successfully cope with changes in life, upon commencing the benefits from having a life coach quickly become evident. Among these benefits is a healthier, happier and successful life where the individual’s potentials can be harnessed to the fullest.

So, what is transition coaching? It focuses on providing relevant support, encouragement and guidance for individuals undergoing shifts or changes in their lives. The life coach then assumes many roles for the individuals under the coaching program, said roles of which include but may not be limited to mentor, motivator and sounding board.

It must be emphasized that transition coaching deals with both physical and psychological changes since both are interrelated and interconnected in virtually all ways. For example, individuals who are thinking of retirement will face physical changes like transfer to a new home which in turn requires psychological transitions. Indeed, anything that affects our bodies will eventually make an impact on the mind – a fact that any qualified life coach will take into account when helping individuals make a successful transition.

google_ad_channel = “7940249670, ” + AB_cat_channel + AB_unit_channel;
google_language = “en”;
google_ad_region = ‘test’;

The next question is who will benefit from transition coaching?

Everybody! Teenagers, adults and even the elderly who are experiencing or who are set to experience changes, shifts and transitions in their lives will benefit from the services of a life coach. We can mention the following examples of such transitions:

• Career change including retirement

• Shift from being a work-at-home parent to taking on a full-time job or vice versa

• Relocations

• Personal losses including the death of a loved one, divorce and other traumatic

   Events related to physical separation

• Empty nest syndrome

• Extreme weight loss

• Retirement from elite sportsmanship

In all of these changes in your life, you will appreciate the benefits of undergoing transition coaching under the guidance of a life coach. You have a mentor, motivator and adviser who will help in planning for, coping with and overcoming the numerous challenges that come with transitions in life. After all, two heads are better than one especially where your well-being is concerned.

Indeed, transition coaching is necessary for anybody who feels overwhelmed with the possibility of changes in his/her life, be it for physical or psychological reasons. The presence of a life coach can make all the difference in your life so take advantage of the services offered even when transitions seem to be far off in the future, that can be one of the most important times to engage with a life coach. Preparation for change can be a key factor in how successful your transition will be.

Know and Play to Your Strength Zone

var addthis_config = { “data_track_clickback”:true, ui_language: “en” }

My experience has shown me that when you focus your energy on improving your strengths and carrying out only activities, which are aligned with these, you are far more effective and efficient. Average people spend time to save money, doing things they hate, whilst super achievers spend money to save time, so they can focus on doing what they love. Money is infinite and easy to earn, whilst your time is finite and far more valuable.

The most effective way to utilise your time is to focus on only doing the things you are good at and to get people, who play at what you feel drains your energy, to do the tasks you find difficult or tedious. When you focus all your energy on doing what you love doing and only do tasks, which are aligned with your strength zone. You not only become far more productive, but you also get to enjoy your life far more.

I am positive that Richard Branson and Donald Trump are as successful as they are, because they use their available time, focused in their strengths zone. They never waste valuable time doing things they hate or are not good at doing. Stop doing the things you hate and you will add many hours of productivity to your day.

google_ad_channel = “7940249670, ” + AB_cat_channel + AB_unit_channel;
google_language = “en”;
google_ad_region = ‘test’;

Action Idea: Spend one day focused on doing things you are good at and love doing. At the end of the day examine how much more productive you were and how much you enjoyed your day. Now gradually extend this exercise until you have delegated all the tasks you hate, to people, who are more effective at carrying out those tasks than you are. When you do this, the tasks you hate doing get done far better because they are being done by people that love doing those things and you get a whole lot more time to do the things you excel at doing. Everything becomes far more efficient, effective and enjoyable.

Imagine how amazing your life will be, when your entire day is invested into doing the things you love and are good at doing. You get to live the life of your dreams and success becomes almost effortless, as you do what you love and love what you do. Now add your commitment to constant and never ending improvement into the mix, where you focus all your energy on only improving your strengths. Your growth is diluted if you waste time trying to improve areas where you have any weaknesses

Action Idea: Identify a specific area in your strength zone and introduce a focused approach to improve this strength. Only read books, listen to audio books and attend seminars that are dedicated to improving this strength over the next 90 days. This focused approach will see you develop this strength far beyond what would be possible, if you diluted your efforts and read books, listened to audio books and attended a seminar in many diverse fields during the same time frame.

As you take this focused approach to the next 90 days, don’t forget to look for guidance from people, who can assist you and support your efforts. Now go marching boldly into 2012 and use your natural talents, gifts and strengths to become far more productive, efficient and effective. The results you will see start appearing in your life, when you make this shift will astound you and everyone around you.
