Sometimes we get stuck in a rut in our lives because we become accustomed to playing a role, adhering to a script that wasn’t ours to begin with but was inherited from our upbringing or reflect the paths our lives have taken. If you want to move from being an unknown to a worthy nominee, it’s time to re-script your life.
Go through makeup and wardrobe
Get a couple of black bags and have a really good clear out of all your clothes. Be tough – get rid of any clothes you haven’t worn for over a year, those that you have grown out of or those that simply never suited you anyway. Look to people in the media for direction and find someone who is a similar age and body shape to you whose style you admire. Start collecting bits and pieces in that style – I’m not advocating a whole new wardrobe straight away! Start with accessories and maybe add a few pieces in a new colour. You can also experiment with different hairstyles and ways of doing your makeup, either of which have to be expensive. Ask friends for honest feedback if you are unsure about the results.
Check your character profile

google_ad_region = ‘test’;
Many of us never take the time to have a really good look at ourselves. Many of us have stayed pretty much the same since we were teenagers. Do you ever think about who you are, and whether you like it? Are your values, beliefs and habits your own or were they inherited from your parents? If you were to write a character profile for yourself what would it say? You can change things about that profile easily enough but first you must ask yourself what. Work on one or two small things and, gradually, you’ll be able to turn your negative traits into positive ones and feel all the better for it.
Look at your co-stars
We are shaped very much by who we spend our time with. Are your co-stars supportive and encouraging of you becoming the very best version of you that you can be, or are they just as stuck in their ruts and slightly resentful when you try to make some changes? Don’t worry – if you’re brave enough to try some new activities, break a habit or make a few positive changes by yourself, you’ll soon have more fun and meet some great new people along the way.
Have a strong plot line
Do you know where is your story going? If you don’t know where you are going, how will you know when you get there? It’s an easy way to get stuck in a rut. Writing a loose five-year plan is a really good way of keeping an eye on the things you want to do and achieve in a rough time-frame.
Remember, the world is your stage – make yours an Oscar winning performance!
