As each day passes, is the world a little better off because you have been here or have you had no effect or worse, you have left the world a little worse off, because of your passing. Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote a beautiful poem in which he measures success by how we leave in the world, as we pass through it. In his poem he states that we should “leave the world a bit better” because of our passing through it. That one phrase really stood out for me and has left an indelible mark burnt into my mind. It has been one of the driving forces behind the creation of my vision and mission for the future. That single philosophy fills my belly with fire every day and drives me to try my best, to positively touch the lives of as many people as I can every day.

As the tides change every day and the sea washes onto the beach, the sea leaves a beautiful line etched in the sand, showing us where it has been washing onto the beach all day. This cycle shows us the passage of the tide, as it recedes from and rises along the shore each day. As you pass through the cycles of your life, what type of mark are you leaving behind each day? Is there a positive mark etched in the earth, where you have stood each day, a mark that you are proud to leave behind, a mark that has made a difference to everyone or even just one person around you?

google_ad_channel = “7940249670, ” + AB_cat_channel + AB_unit_channel;
google_language = “en”;
google_ad_region = ‘test’;

Is that mark you are leaving, showing that a person with great humility stood there, someone who valued everyone around them and someone who made an effort to leave the world a little better each day as they passed through it. Break away from the notion that success is measured by the size of your bank account, how much power you wield, or how many people admire you. Those are merely indicators of how hard you have worked, lineage or in some cases just blind luck.

I am in no way saying that accumulating great wealth cannot and should not be part of the journey. I am saying that you will live a very shallow and superficial life if the sole purpose of your life is accumulating wealth and power. You will live a far more fulfilled and meaningful life, if you strive to leave a wake every day, where you  support, help and uplift as many people as possible.

How do you leave the world a little better each day, because of your passing through?

Action Idea: Look around your world and give freely of your time and resources to inspire everyone around you to grow and become more. However you feel it is best to allocate your resources to uplift those around you, give freely every day. My belief and drive, is to give to inspiration and never to desperation. I see it as my duty to uplift the spirit of any one who finds themselves in a place of desperation and inspire them to grow into a place of inspiration, i.e. a place where they can grow expand and inspire their own success.

I never give money to desperation as this only perpetuates the cycle of need. If you hand money to beggar, you are not helping, you are hurting them, as you are enabling them to remain trapped in a cycle of desperation. If you empower the beggar through education or by teaching them how to re-discover their passion and drive, you have really given them something of value. Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach him to fish and you have fed him for a lifetime. The greatest gift you can give to anyone is the gift of your time, experience and expertise as you mentor them and help them to grow.

The wealth that will flow to you as you aspire to leave the world a little better each day, will enrich your spirit and open the floodgates for unimaginable happiness to flow into your heart. When possessing monetary wealth, is secondary to spiritual wealth and the up-liftment of everyone around you, both happiness and all the comfort you require will flow into your experience.

var addthis_config = { “data_track_clickback”:true, ui_language: “en” }

if($.cookie(“show_edit”) == ‘yes’) {
$(‘div.moderate_box_open’).css(‘display’, ‘block’);
}

google_ad_channel = AB_cat_channel + AB_unit_channel;
google_language = “en”;
google_ad_region = ‘test’;

If you’re like most people, one of the first things that crosses your mind when you hear about the law of attraction is the idea of manifesting more money into your life. After all, if you can ask the universe for anything, why shouldn’t you ask for more money? Then you can use that money to buy anything else you want.

But, as with most things involved in the law of attraction, it’s not quite as simple as that.

Think of a dollar bill or actually let’s go with a hundred dollar bill. How does it make you feel? Can you bring up lots of feelings about it or is it just a bit of paper with some ink on it?

If your eyes lit up at the thought of holding a crisp hundred dollar bill then there’s a good chance you can use that kind of visualization to work with the law of attraction to manifest more money into your life.

If, on the other hand, money is just a means to an end and your thoughts were closer to “that will never happen to me” or “as soon as I get that, I’ll spend it” then don’t panic. You’re not alone – a lot of people’s relationship with money is like this. Deep down there’s something stopping them getting hold of money or anything else in abundant quantities.

google_ad_channel = “7940249670, ” + AB_cat_channel + AB_unit_channel;
google_language = “en”;
google_ad_region = ‘test’;

It’s at this stage that the law of attraction can come to the rescue.

There’s a certain mindset involved in all this. After all, if just the idea of attracting money and abundance into your life worked, you’d already been there.

So examine all the thoughts that come up when you think of that note.

Not just the “ooh – cash – that’s nice!” thoughts.

But the ones that lurk just below the surface. The thoughts that tell you that you’re not worthy or that it will never happen to you.

Those are the real thought patterns going through your mind and they’re the ones that are actually stopping you from manifesting more money than you ever thought possible into your life.

And it’s those thoughts that you need to change.

The law of attraction works at this deeper level. The universe interprets the thoughts you send out, whether you want it to or not.

The snag is that the universe can’t cope with negatives. It’s the ultimate positive thinker in that respect – it just discards any negative part of a statement.

Yikes!

That means all those thoughts of not being worthy or not deserving lots of cash actually get translated as thoughts that you desire poverty or a low-cash existence.

So you need to gradually turn round how you think and change everything into thoughts that can’t possibly be interpreted as desiring lack or poverty.

Phrasing your thoughts and words positively will go a long way to this. It’s close to what is often explained in the law of attraction as positive vibration. The patterns you follow and the thoughts you think make up this bigger picture and will affect the connection between money and the law of attraction in your life.

Stress can happen because of a lot of different things that we have to deal with daily. Sometimes it can be difficult to figure out why stress exists and what triggers it, and it can be hard to find ways to relieve yourself of it. This article can help you learn how to deal with your stressful situations. Stop feeling overwhelmed and stressed; fix the pressure and relax.  Here is how.

1.       If you have problems with a particular class, a tutor can be very helpful. A tutor will be there to help you understand the material better so you don’t feel stressed when you have to take an exam. Being prepared is the best feeling you can have on test day and it is important to feel that way if you do not want to be anxious.

2.       Be sure to inform all the people in your inner circle that your stress has nothing to do with them. Surrounding family members often feel responsible for contributing to your stress, most especially children. Deal with stress on your own, and be sure you never blame it on others.

3.       Smile more, and you will feel naturally less stressed. When smiling, the muscles used trigger your limbic system, your emotional center that is located in the brain. Smiling will tilt your limbic system to a calmer state, which is a great way to lower your stress levels.

4.       Don’t use the word “stress” so much. If you keep telling yourself you are very hungry, before long you will be famished and the same is true for feeling stressed. Find another way to look at your situation. If you keep using the word stress, you will end up making it worse.

google_ad_channel = “7940249670, ” + AB_cat_channel + AB_unit_channel;
google_language = “en”;
google_ad_region = ‘test’;

5.       Stress can relieved with the help of pets. There is research that indicates that simply petting an pet for a couple of minutes lowers stress levels.

6.       One great way to relieve stress and feel great is to take a long, relaxing bath. Try some of the many wonderful scented soaps or oils available that can add a touch of luxury to your bath Read a book or listen to soothing music. You can recharge your mind and body and let your stress drain away when you indulge yourself in a long, hot bath.

7.       Always make sure you take a moment for yourself every day. It can be as simple as enjoying a cup of joe, or reading a book you love. It just needs to be something that lets you fight the stress and calm down.

8.       A simple and easy way to reduce stress is to smile. People smile naturally when they are cheerful and calm, and if you force yourself to smile, you will actually start to feel like that, too. Force yourself to smile and you will feel better after a while. Smiling in the midst of a stressful period can really help you relax and unwind.

9.       Make sure you are organized in all aspects of your life if you would like to reduce your stress levels. Perhaps your stress comes from procrastinating or simply forgetting about what you need to do. Stay organized; your stress level will decrease when you feel in control.

10.   An excellent method of calming down when you have a stressful day is to do a special act for another person. Consider buying a little treat or toy for your child, or surprising your partner with their favorite meal. By placing your focus on someone else, you draw attention away from your own stress.

11.   Single out your main sources of tension, and find ways to minimize or eliminate your exposure to it. For example, you may have a friend that consistently drains with their negativity. You may benefit from limiting your exposure to this negative influence. Cutting out the stress factors in your life can improve your physical and emotional health.

12.   When managing stress, it is vital that you also understand how to control your anger. Anger can be damaging to your body, so it is very important to remain calm even when you have feelings of anger. In order to keep your stress from getting the best of you, it can be extremely helpful to learn some strategies for managing your anger in a healthy way.

Feeling overwhelmed and stressed is not pleasant, and it can do long term damage to your health. However, when you implement the ideas you’ve learned in this article, you will be able to better manage any stress that life has to offer.

Your own personal development is what you make of it. You can become anything you want to be if you have the discipline, determination and drive to make it happen. This article will give you some tips on how you can use those characteristics to improve yourself to the level you desire.

Life does not go on forever. Make each day of your life as beautiful as a masterpiece. If you stop and think each morning that you are going to make that particular day the best of your life and then you strive to meet that goal, you are sure to find that you are capable of living a life you enjoy and are proud of.

Everyone needs to get a little better at selflessness. We are all great at knowing how to be selfish. Selfless is the opposite of selfish. Selfless is forgetting ourselves in order to make sacrifices to help others. Being selfless from time to time vs. selfish is a great way to improve our personal development.

Look at your day to day lifestyle. You can start from there to begin your personal development. What happens on a normal day that you can work on to change and develop? Many people have many things that they could work through, though don’t spend the time to notice what they are.

Overcome your personal fears with action. Take baby steps into overcoming your fears to either diminish their hold on you or to completely eliminate them. Convince yourself that you can be more than just afraid of the fears, and that you can take steps to bypass them. You are not limited by them.

To be successful learn how to deal with change. The world is constantly changing and if you learn how to adapt to changes you can move right along with it. Embrace new ideas with enthusiasm and give them a fair chance; if you find that the new ideas don’t work out, than you can always go back to the tried and true.

Head off procrastination and sluggishness with a healthier diet. Stay away from foods high in saturated fat such as hamburgers and french fries. Fatty foods cause fatigue, sluggishness and fatigue, as well as slower thinking. This makes it tough to stay focused and get through all of the tasks on our to-do list.

To keep your motivation strong, remember that comparing yourself to others is a counterproductive process. Everybody comes from a different standpoint, and your position in life is unique. This means that your successes are just that — yours. You should have pride in what you have already accomplished and only allow yourself to be inspired by others, instead of feeling intimidated.

Help yourself by helping others. One of the most powerful keys to personal development is to give yourself to others. Go beyond a few coins in a collection jar and get to know people or even animals in need. Helping those who are worse off than yourself can put things in perspective and help you become a more rounded individual.

Sometimes achieving personal growth is as simple as finding that negative voice in your head, and silencing it. Sometimes that voice will tell you that you are not good enough, that it is simply not possible, or that now is a bad time. Silence it and you will see progress.

With regards to personal development in the professional field, be sure that you check your emotions at the door. Often times decisions based on emotions can cause you to think or choose contrary to what your knowledge or logic would determine. It is also unprofessional to show too much emotion.

To help you improve yourself personally, exercising everyday is essential. Exercise can help you improve your focus, enhance your ability in a variety of sports and generally improve your health and well being. Exercise is also key to personal development since exercise releases endorphins, which are a mood enhancer and promote a more positive outlook on life.

In order to improve yourself, you must first assess the problem. To fix anything, you must discover what is broken. Spend fifteen minutes in deep thought, in silence. Try to remember all the times in your life that you have faced pain or rejection. When you have this list, remind yourself that the past does not define you. Release your past guilt. Lastly, try to glean whatever lessons you can from your past failures so you do not repeat them.

When you are stressed out, exercise. This is one of the best remedies to relieve stress. Exercise releases adrenaline that stress produces. You will find that almost immediately you will feel better. Try to make exercise an enjoyable daily habit and not a chore, so you can get into the routine of it.

Meeting your goals, whatever they are, will create a huge sense of success and rightly so. You can use some of the tips that you have just read over, to help you to take the first step toward happiness. If there has been a desire to travel somewhere exotic, take the kids to Disney World. You can knit your first pair of socks or find a better job or really, just any little thing that you have ever wanted to try. That’s the first step!

Whether you have contemplated your unique purpose in life, tried to deepen or build on your spiritual development, or sought to enhance your own self awareness, chances are very good that at some point in your life that you have tried to further your personal development. The quest to better oneself seems to be innate in humans.

Don’t compare yourself to other people. This practice only leads to self-doubt and despair. Remember that they are not living your life; you are. Instead of focusing on what other people are doing that you aren’t, or what other people have that you don’t, work on improving your own life a step at a time.

Gaining knowledge is one of the best ways you can help yourself grow as a person. There is nothing wrong with going to the library and checking out books or audio books that can help you feel better about yourself and have a positive outlook on your goals and life in general.

Confide in a friend. Clue someone that you trust in on your goals and turn to them when you want reassuring praise for your progress. A true friend can also provide polite reminders that you need to work a little harder. Being accountable has a way of making us work more diligently to accomplish our goals.

Compete with your own results. End each month so that you beat your performance from the month that came before it. This might be easier said than done, and while you may not exceed your performance every month, it makes a very worthwhile target to shoot for. It will also help you continue to look for ways to improve your performance each month.

Many people are plagued by not feeling motivated, but sometimes completing a task is only as difficult as starting it. If you do not feel up to a task, try starting it. Many times, once you get the ball rolling, you will find it significantly easier to follow the task through to its completion.

google_ad_channel = “7940249670, ” + AB_cat_channel + AB_unit_channel;
google_language = “en”;
google_ad_region = ‘test’;

Overcome your personal fears with action. Take baby steps into overcoming your fears to either diminish their hold on you or to completely eliminate them. Convince yourself that you can be more than just afraid of the fears, and that you can take steps to bypass them. You are not limited by them.

To succeed in personal development, you should make it your passion to do what you love. It’s easy to fall into the trap of choosing a path because it seems to be the one paved with more gold. Those paths, though, can be of little interest to you past that, and soon you could lose interest. To truly succeed, go with what you are passionate about. The money will follow.

We have all benefited from teachers and mentors. What would we have done without them? This is just as true in personal as well as in professional development. Our own development benefits us even more when we can give it to others: coaching a team, guiding a young artist, or just being a good listener.

Don’t just talk to yourself, listen! Keep a journal and detail the thoughts you have as you process through your steps to personal development. You might find that overcoming old habits makes you angry or scared. By listening to your internal and external narratives, you’ll be able to identify areas that need extra attention.

Learn to improve the outcome of almost any argument or conflict by using phrases that communicate empathy and understanding with the other party’s point of view – even if you do not agree with it. This practice can create a clear channel for negotiation and makes it easier to establish an attitude of respect.

Learn to find a balance between drive and caution. Hone your ability to assess the risks involved in opportunities that come your way, and then ask yourself how much you want the reward. No pleasure comes without some risk, but not every reward is worth it. Save your time and energy for what matters most to you.

Changing your environment could be the key to making you happier. Being in a location that has a lot of violence, or in a neighborhood that depresses you is only going to bring you down. It is important to live in a safe neighborhood, where you can come and go as you please and not have to worry about your surroundings.

When it comes to personal development it is important to know your boundaries and push them only to the extent that you are not over reaching what is possible. This is important so that you do not set yourself up for failure by striving for the unattainable. Learn your range and push yourself to always be at the top of your own range.

As you can see from the advice in this article, in order to have a better all-around life experience, you need to focus on yourself first. Once you have seen that you can focus your energies to be the person you envision, then you can extend that help to those around you.

The need for Divine Direction in the journey of life cannot be side-tracked.  Success can be very far from you when you fail to work in line with God’s plan for your life. You need to be properly guided in order to have a smooth sail in life.

There’s a way that seems right to a man but the end of it is death! So says the Holy Scriptures.  It’s one thing to go into one direction, it’s yet another thing to discover whether that direction is actually what your Creator wants you to do in life.

Divine direction is very necessary for success in life.  You need to go for it especially when you want to make serious decision about your life.   If you want to choose a specific career in life, you don’t just make the choice on your own. You need to be divinely guided in making the right choice. You need to ask your Creator if that particular career is actually what He wants you to do in life.

google_ad_channel = “7940249670, ” + AB_cat_channel + AB_unit_channel;
google_language = “en”;
google_ad_region = ‘test’;

A life without direction is heading to the rocks. You’re a failure about to happen if you fail to secure divine direction to the course you’re pursuing.   You can’t make any headway in life if you’re on the wrong track.  There’s the need to   locate the right path you’re born to follow in life.

Life itself is a journey. You need to be divinely guided to make it count.  You can’t just move about aimlessly.  You must make sure your life is going in the right direction destined   for you.

How then do you secure Divine Direction? You only need to connect with God. Create sometime to   ask Him to show you the right purpose for your life.  If it means going out from your comfort zone to a mountain, please do so.  You need to discover the right direction to take in order to succeed in life.  Any time you want to make serious decision that can alter your life; you don’t rush into it like a mad dog. You must take out sometime to fast and pray God to lead you to the right path. You’re sure to succeed   in life when you’re able to secure proper Divine Direction for your life. Go for it today!

What is personal development? It’s a broad category, but it has to do with the way we conduct our lives. Everyone strives for more happiness, but some people have a hard time knowing how to bring that happiness into their current lives. These tips on personal development can help you get closer to your own personal sense of fulfillment.

A great way to self help your depression is to help others by volunteering. Many people who are depressed end up feeling sorry for themselves, but lending a helping hand will give you perspective on other peoples lives while making your own life feel more fulfilled. It is also a great way to meet new people.

Try to figure out what is stopping you from getting what you want out of life. There are things that you can do something about and there are also things that you can not. Try to focus only on the things you can do something about, since these are things that will get you closer to your goal.

Shyness in social situations can be a source of great discomfort and missed opportunities. You can learn to overcome this deficit upon meeting a new person for the first time. How? Well first take a deep breath and then quickly thinking back to a moment in your life where you were proud of an accomplishment, confident in your abilities, or on the verge of success. The memory will give you an added boost that will be reflected in your tone and composure and is sure to make a good impression.

Pamper yourself, and make sure you do what makes you happy. It can be stress relieving to find things that make you happy and do them for yourself. Even if it’s something simple such as getting your nails done, find time for these things, and do them so you feel better about yourself.

There are many wonderful self help books out there that can help you with many different issues. Read the review of a book that looks interesting to you, and see if other people have found that helpful. Many books also have workbooks that give you exercises to do as you read along.

If you are looking for self-help tips to help out with your depression, consider taking a long walk with a friend or family member. It is great to share your thoughts and feelings with someone, and studies have shown that exercise is a great way to help fight depression.

Accept responsibility for the things that happen in your life. Do not blame others; the decisions that you make are the reason that you are in your current situation. Once you realize this, you will be able to start making positive changes in your life, and you will have control over your future.

Personal development is often most successful when you have a clear goal in mind. Simply striving for “improvement” will take you far, but will make it much harder for you to reach your ultimate goals. Specific goals that you can clearly visualize will allow you to remain focused on why you’re striving for improvement.

Spend ten minutes each day on self-reflection. This can include journal writing, reading spiritual material, meditation or whatever helps you evaluate your day and reflect on how your actions during the day reflect who you are and who you are becoming. Daily reflection helps you stay on your path.

Spend some time learning about what you really enjoy doing. You can then incorporate this into your personal development. Once you know what you enjoy and have fun with, you can use this to look at personal development not as such a daunting task, but one that will allow you to have a little more fun in your life.

There is much truth in the adage ” “As you help others, you help yourself.” When life seems bleakest, it can be useful to know that there are always people who need what you can offer. Volunteering yourself and your skills, time and compassion, is a powerful tool to pull you out of your own funk and get you thinking about other people and their problems. It is remarkable ” and often life-changing ” to realize how much help you will get yourself by changing your focus to someone else in need.

It’s never too early to learn personal development. Children need to be told and shown that they are capable of doing anything they set their mind to. If this is ingrained in them from the time they are young, they will develop a solid sense of positive self esteem that can stay with them throughout their life.

Manicure those nails! Clean and neat fingernails are an essential part of self image. They are also an important part of your public appearance. Your nails are something that your peers and coworkers are sure to see. Who would consider giving any real responsibility to someone with nails that are chewed down to nothing but nubs?

If you need some fresh motivation to inspire your personal development plan, you are not alone. Everyone can use some inspiration to get started on such a daunting task. Now is the time to take the advice in the article above, and find out how good your life can be.

The success of relationships is an age old concept and an intriguing topic and most certainly may determine the laws of courtship.  The rules of getting drawn to certain people may manifest it in forming the basis of friendships and more importantly the success of relationships.

We are attracted to certain people due to social reasons, after all attraction is a social, biological process.  Positive social responses between certain individuals with feelings of liking and lust may develop along with a sense of being comfortable with each other.

Men are considered attractive when they have power, wealth and social status, but there are many men out there that as the saying goes ‘hide their light under a bushel’ in other words they keep good traits, abilities and gifts hidden, they sometimes do not use their talents to help them in the dating game.

Guys make some pretty simple mistakes that will hamper their ability in how to attract women, you need to be able to make a woman feel certain things when she is around you and if you do not do this you will fail totally, you must learn the art of how to talk to women, make them feel important and take an interest in what she has to say, don’t make a conversation all about me, me, me.

google_ad_channel = “7940249670, ” + AB_cat_channel + AB_unit_channel;
google_language = “en”;
google_ad_region = ‘test’;

Most men seem to learn from other guys on what to do, having said that, the guys that you make take tips from are not always successful with women themselves, and are not able to instruct anyone on how to talk to girls, or how to get girls, it would seem it is the blind leading the blind.

How to get a girlfriend should be simple for the confident guy, who steers clear from a few simple mistakes, such as don’t try to be clever and deliver killer lines and sometimes you forget the punch line, it will be embarrassing for you, the girl and anyone that is in hearing range, learn how to talk to women in a much more natural way, and you will be able to create attraction with any woman.

Do not move too fast, keep a happy medium, as moving too slow can also mar your success with women as well.  When around girls, you need to learn a steady pace and you will then learn the perfect way on how to pick up girls.

Gary Goldstein is the UK’s leading attraction expert, and offers help to guys who struggle with talking to or attracting women, Gary explained “many guys do not have a belief system and do not rate themselves as someone who can ‘get the girl’, at my Social Attraction Academy, I can certainly change all that for them.  I offer attraction workshops and guys attending sessions can change their whole attitude on how to attract the opposite sex”.  He went on to say “I offer 1-1 coaching, and work directly with shy guys to help develop their skills with women and dating, we teach them attraction skills, this will help them to improve their core confidence and realize their potential.  I am a qualified councilor and am able to help males overcome any of their limiting beliefs”.

Recently I was consulting with a client on what issues are currently facing her
company.  She asked me to stay away from the topic of work/life balance because, in her opinion, it’s not achievable.  This company has faced the consequences of
stress and burn-out in the workplace including poor morale, attendance problems, reduced productivity, retention problems and poor customer satisfaction ratings.  Employers recognize that out of balance and stressed employees can contribute to all of these things.  In fact, work/life balance is one of the most elusive and sought after values in business today.  In a recent Aon Consulting poll, 88% of employees say they have a hard time juggling work and life.

The problem is that balance is not something that can be provided as part of a benefits package.  One organization can’t offer more work/life balance to its employees than another.   Some employers offer a flexible work schedule, child care, financial services, etc. but these things can only help you manage life more efficiently, they can’t give your life direction, momentum or the feeling of balance.

Despite recognition of the problem, surveys show that employees have been driven
further away from achieving work/life balance over the last several years by being pounded consistently with messages like “9% unemployment”, “if we can just survive this economy”, and “doing more with less”.  Each of us has been forced to value simply having a job, regardless of how much stress we are under.  Many people have had to take on more
responsibility and more tasks just to stay where they are in their careers.  Each day has become a race to complete our to-do list and “meet expectations”.  That is not seeking balance, that is seeking survival.   But staying in this survival mode for too long without moving forward or making progress in life is what leads to burn-out.

The term work/life balance itself suggests that work is what we have to do and life
is what we want to do, and that these are two opposing forces between which we
must constantly make choices.  It suggests that when we choose to give time or thought to one, the other loses.  This is an unfortunate suggestion because you don’t have a separate professional life and personal life, you just have a life.  This dichotomy leads people to say
things like they want to work really hard and retire at 50 and have the rest of
their lives to do what they want.  Would that produce balance?  Would it be wise
to wait until your life is half over before you start living it?  Would your spouse or friends even wait around that long to enjoy it with you?

Trying to manage the clock on an everyday basis doesn’t guarantee balance either.    Spending half of each day in the office andhalf at home can’t guarantee that you would leave stress behind when you left work for the day.  It can’t guarantee that you would have satisfying personal relationships just because of the number of hours spent outside the office or because you turn your smartphone off during dinner.  Balance is not a quantitative measure.

Think of the last time you had the thought that your life is better today than it was
yesterday.  Maybe it was a graduation, a new job offer, a promotion, a new client, an award, a magazine or TV appearance, a great vacation, running a marathon, hosting a great party, a new relationship, a new volunteer opportunity, helping a child with a new milestone, solving an old problem with a fresh new thought, even just getting a great workout or receiving a compliment on a job well done.  These are times when you felt balanced.  You worked towards a goal and your hard work produced real results and made an improvement in your life.  Movement in our lives towards goals and improvement is what creates balance.  It
creates the excitement and adrenaline that we need to keep going.  At the end of the day it offers peace of mind that we have not wasted time, that we have identified where we want to go and we have done something about it instead of just standing still and aging through another day.  The momentum created by improvement and results motivates and inspires us to do even more the next day.

google_ad_channel = “7940249670, ” + AB_cat_channel + AB_unit_channel;
google_language = “en”;
google_ad_region = ‘test’;

This is a different understanding of balance. Balance is a feeling you get when you are satisfied with where you are and where you are going in life.  You are satisfied with where you’re spending your time and resources.  It’s the balance of maintenance and improvement.  Balance comes from pursuing and achieving goals and seeing improvement in your life, rather than continuing to put forth effort toward maintenance or standing still.

The balance and satisfaction that come from pursuing goals and improvement is unique to each individual.  What makes one person’s life better might not be what someone else wants. It could be someone’s goal to buy a bigger house and another’s goal to finally downsize.  It’s not always bigger, better, more.  It’s about movement.  It’s about taking your life in the direction you want it to go and experiencing the excitement and exhilaration that goes
with it.

Both personally and professionally you have opportunity for improvement, ingenuity,
new adventure and new growth.  The best way to combat burn-out and stress and achieve a feeling that your life is balanced between what you have to do and what makes you feel alive, is to continuously seek improvement in some area of your life.  This is important because there are parts of life that continue to get worse all the time.  The reality of aging is that
health becomes more of a challenge and keeping up our physical appearance becomes more time consuming.  The responsibilities and worries of life never stop, in fact they seem to grow as we get older.  Without continuous effort toward goals and progress you will spend all your time and tremendous efforts on maintenance and just trying to stay where you are and not lose ground.  Over time this can cause burn-out, depression, resentment, regret and stress.

As you identify goals and plan even small steps to work toward them each day then
the feeling of burn-out begins to fade. With each small step you see improvement and gain momentum.  You are moving… progressing… the purpose of your efforts becomes more evident.   You have something to talk about and develop ideas about, you find your thoughts
always gravitating toward how to reach the goal, and how your life will improve
once you have accomplished it.  You are using your resources toward improvement instead of fighting to stand still.  That feeling of life in motion is creating balance.  Moving toward
something meaningful that will make life better for you, your team at work, your organization, your family, etc. is what makes burn-out and stress fade away and lets balance and satisfaction move in.

The key to getting started on this journey of improvement and achieving balance in your life is to plan.  Managing survival or maintenance items is challenging and time consuming.  The daily maintenance tasks that cause burn-out and stress come from personal and professional issues and include everything from paying bills, cleaning dishes, getting haircuts and putting gas in the car, to submitting expense reports, attending long meetings and keeping
up w ith endless emails.  Then you wake up the next day and do it all over again.  If you wait until these items are completed each day before you get to improvement, then improvement will never happen.  Instead, while you are in the midst of frenzied errands and tasks, take a step back and shift gears a little. Squeeze in steps toward your goals on your calendar every day.  Without planning these steps, your brain will always prioritize survival tasks first. Having a written plan will influence the way you make decisions about your time and help you fit in goal steps along with everything else you have to do today. It will keep your goals at the forefront of your mind instead of letting you bury yourself in survival mode.

Take some time and make a list of goals, large and small, that would improve the quality of your life.  Consider professional and personal goals, long term and short term. Look at the list
every day and find a way to get some small step toward achieving one of them onto your calendar each day.  Schedule time to make a networking call, read an industry magazine, take a class, find a mentor or write an article, brainstorm ways to improve a process, or offer more value to an existing client.  Contact a financial planner, exercise, plan a date, play a game, fix that squeaky door at home, etc.  Movement toward goals and improvement, even small steps, can keep you from burn-out and will keep you balanced and improve the quality of not just your professional life or your personal life, but your whole life.  We don’t need to balance work and life.  Work is part of life.  We need to balance surviving today with progressing toward a better tomorrow.   This is what truly creates the feeling of
balance and it’s not something that can be given to you by an employer or something you achieve by watching how much time you spend working versus not working.  If you can identify ways in which you are improving an area of your life all the time (no matter how small)
then you have a credible claim to balanc

Seasons change as days pass us by.  There is no looking back to what has been left behind.  We humble ourselves with what we have surpassed as we smile while we thought of our beautiful past.  We had our humble beginnings before we reached the top and only then could we scream at the top of our lungs.  But life is not a fairytale where the frog would suddenly become a real man after a passionate kiss from his true love.

Life has a beginning and life has an end but the end of life is not at death.  Life ends when we decide to stop living and start to fade.  Like when God created the trees, He made it to give fruits or flowers not just to languish and shrink.  Once life begins, live it to the fullest because only our God knows when our life should really end.

It was then the first day of summer when we started our battle four years back but I could still remember every single detail as if it just occurred to me today.  From the first haircut to the last shirt we wore until our final meal before we received our uniforms.  Everything seems so ideal and so pleasant that I never thought it would end so fast.  We surpassed all the difficult tasks and all emotional distress of being away from home.  In spite of all that we have been through, I realized that I am just a man.

Only four years of hardship but we have built a lifetime of memories to cherish.  We should not regret the long years of training rather make it our inspiration as we pursue our journey to success.  This is the path that God created for us, the path less travelled by.  We only learned the basics of survival so we should continue our journey and learn more about life.

There is more to know about life and there is more to know about ourselves.  We are now in these circumstances because God knows we can be better persons in a different time. Let us not dwell on our past but pursue what He has dreamt for us.  He will not bring us to the grounds where we will not flourish but wither.  We can be what we want us to be if we could only spread our wings and let the wind bring us to our destiny.
